After a disappointing loss on Friday night that ousted Tennessee (18-14, 10-6 SEC) from the SEC tournament and the NCAA tournament, the Vols are now a #1 seed in the NIT tournament and will host Savannah State (21-11, 14-2 MEAC) in Thompson Boling Arena on Tuesday night.

“It’s always a good thing to have an opportunity to play in the postseason,” Cuonzo Martin said.

Tennessee joins Washington, Seton Hall, and Arizona as the #1 Seeds in the tournament.

The Vols are hosting a team that has followed a similar route. Savannah State won 13 straight games to finish the season and won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season title but were upset in the quarterfinals.

Tennessee has appeared in the NIT 12 times, the last being in 2004 under Coach Buzz Petersen where the Vols were beaten in the first round by George Mason.

The Vols have never won the NIT, they advanced to the Semi-Finals in 1985 before losing to Indiana.

Tickets are $10 for the game and all tickets will be General Admission.
