Tennessee beat East Tennessee State 9-7, on a cold Tuesday afternoon in Knoxville. The Vols jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third inning, but ETSU answered with five runs in the top of the fourth. Tennessee would extend their lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-5 lead. ETSU made a run and scored two in the top of the seventh, but stranded the tying run in the top of the ninth, as Trevor Bettencourt earned the save for the Vols.
The Volunteers are now 3-5 on the season.
Tennessee will head to Cary, NC to participate in the USA baseball tournament. The Vols will take the field Friday against Notre Dame at 6:30 pm est.
The Lady Vols improved their record to 14-2 on Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Lipscomb. Ivy Renfroe picked up her fifth win of the year, pitching three shutout innings. Ellen Renfroe started the game for the Lady Vols and pitched four shutout innings.
Melissa Davin led the Lady Vols in hitting, going 2-for-3, scoring two runs and driving in two runs. Raven Chavanne went 2-for-2 from the plate driving in one for Tennessee.
The Lady Vols will now head to Charleston to take on College of Charleston at 3:00 pm est on Thursday.
The Lady Vols will be going for their sixth win in a row as well, when they take on Texas A&M on Thursday night at 7:00 pm est at Thompson Boling Arena. The Lady Vols are coming off a 60-54 win over Arkansas on Sunday. The Lady Vols are currently ranked 8th in the AP poll.
