Arrion Springs, a cornerback from San Antonio, TX (Roosevelt) has been offered by the Tennessee Volunteers.

Springs is a four-star cornerback that 247Sports rates at the 16th best player in the state of Texas and the 10th best cornerback in the nation.

The Texas native stands 5’11” and weighs 192 lbs, he’s been clocked in the 40 yard dash at 4.48 seconds.

Springs has an impressive list of offers that includes Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Clemson and Nebraska among others. All together Springs has 15 offers.

Texas is thought to be the leader in Spring’s recruitment at this point.

The offer to Arrion Springs marks a not often seen foray into Texas for the Vols. Tennessee’s current roster currently has just one player from the state of Texas, Ladarrell McNeil, a sophomore from Dallas, TX.  McNeil was also rated as a four-star defensive back. While McNeil wasn’t offered by Texas, the Vols did beat out schools such as Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Texas A&M for his commitment.

The venture into Texas could be an isolated instance, or it could signal a changing of recruiting philosophy for the Vols. Butch Jones has shown he’s going to take care of the Vol’s backyard, but he’s not afraid to go out into areas typically not recruited by Tennessee in order to sway some recruits.
