Today On Rocky Top: Tennessee Volunteers News 5/8

We see transfers all the time, but this one sticks out. A rising senior point guard announces he will be transferring … in late May. His friend insinuates via Twitter that the player’s decision wasn’t actually the player’s choice. Another former teammate (the son of the former coach, no less) does the same. And the weirdest thing of all? The team he’s leaving doesn’t even have another point guard.

As the calendar turns from April to May, college football coaches trade headsets and whistles for suits and Sharpies.

Since the end of spring practice, it’s been a whirlwind of radio interviews and various speaking engagements for first-year Tennessee coach Butch Jones, but he hardly is alone in the spring touring.

He wasn’t even the only SEC East coach in Chattanooga on Tuesday.

From Rocky Top Talk

Four more first round matchups this week, beginning today with a ridiculous display of talent vs talent: Chuck Webb, Carl Pickens, and Dale Carter vs an arguably more talented but less successful version of the National Championship team. Good luck with this one…

From Go Vols Xtra

A UT athletic department source with knowledge of the situation told the News Sentinel that Golden’s departure is “based on academics” and a result of “repeated plagiarism.”

The source said Golden was not going to be permitted to continue at the university past this semester and would not have been allowed to attend summer school to repair his academic standing.
