According to a tweet from the mother of Vols commit Jalen Hurd, Nick Saban continues to try to contact the young running back. Hurd’s mom said he’s been declining to take the calls.

It’s easy to understand why Saban wants to talk to Hurd, he’s the number two running back in the nation and the top player in the state of Tennessee.

The five-star running back was offered by Alabama on May 2, 2012, about a month after the Vols offered.

Hurd (6’3″/230) committed to thearch 14, becoming Butch Jones’ first five-star commit. Hurd essentially became the centerpiece of a Tennessee Volunteers recruiting class that is shaping up to be one of the best in the nation.

The Hendersonville, TN native is a bruising running back that rushed for a state record 3,357 yards and a ridiculous 43 touchdowns in 2012.

Hurd has not made a visit anywhere other than Tennessee since he visited Ohio State on November 25.

It has to feel good for Tennessee fans to see Nick Saban on the other side of the recruiting battle, coveting what the Vols have for once.

It’s certainly a sign of the Vol’s upward trend under Butch Jones.
