Butch Jones might be from Michigan, but he’s so Tennessee.

Jones won his debut as the Volunteers’ head coach on Saturday, defeating Austin Peay 45-0, but the win was an even bigger milestone for the Vols’ football program. Jones’ first win as Tennessee’s head coach was the 800th win for the storied program.

Jones said after the game he immediately texted legendary Vols’ quarterback Peyton Manning (who accounted for 39 of those wins) to congratulate him on Tennessee’s 800th win.

"The first thing I did after the game was I texted Peyton Manning and said “Congratulations on Win No. 800!"

At this point Butch Jones has pretty much wrote the book for how to handle yourself as a new head coach in the SEC. Jones has went out of his way to praise former players, bring players back and recognize the incredible history of Tennessee.

For a man that’s 1-0, he’s approaching legend status very quickly among some of the Volunteer faithful.

Jones might seem too good to be true for some Vol fans, but there’s no doubting he’s as Tennessee as you can get.

Just ask Peyton Manning.
