As you’re probably aware (or maybe you’re not, so check out this link), Butch Jones is opening up the quarterback competition on Rocky Top.

Justin Worley hasn’t been the playmaker so far that Jones hoped he would prove to be over the Vols’ first three games. Jones stated on Monday that he wants Worley to be more aggressive and “throw his receivers open”, instead of waiting for them to get open.

In opening up the quarterback competition, Jones is hoping to create some quality competition that will improve the production at the position.

Jones is hoping to open up the playbook a bit more and have the quarterback (whoever that may be against Florida) create more plays with their legs. You wouldn’t think that kind of thinking would bode well for Worley, but Butch explained that if Worley can pick up a first down with his legs, that’s all he’s looking for.

I think Jones would be ill-advised to go with a true freshman against Florida, especially one with no game experience. I also don’t think that Nathan Peterman is a better option than Worley at this point.

The Vols should stick with Worley, at least for the Florida game. If you’re going to break in a new quarterback, you’d be much better suited to do it against an opponent like South Alabama on September 28.

But we want to hear what you think. So Vote in our poll and comment below (or tweet us @AllforTennessee) and let us know who you want to start at quarterback this Saturday against the Gators.
