"Mark Elder stated the obvious Wednesday evening.Tennessee’s special teams allowed a punt and a kickoff return touchdown in a blowout loss to Auburn last week, and the Volunteers’ coordinator made no excuses for the breakdowns of Tennessee’s coverage units.“Obviously it was not a very good day for us on teams,” Elder said following the Vols’ final practice of this week’s open date."

From WBIR

"Chattanooga understands it won’t blindside No. 4 Tennessee this time. The memories of last year are too fresh.Tennessee opened the 2012-13 season with a stunning 80-71 loss at Chattanooga in the Lady Vols’ first game of the post-Pat Summitt era. They finally get their chance to avenge that loss Thursday at Thompson-Boling Arena."

From The Tennessean

"Semaj Christon scored 18 points, and short-handed Xavier — playing with two starters sidelined by injury — never trailed as the Musketeers used all of their depth and beat cold-shooting Tennessee 67-63 on Tuesday night.Xavier (2-0) led by as many as 10 points in the first half, when the Volunteers (0-1) couldn’t make any sort of basket consistently. The Volunteers got within two points in the second half, but Xavier pushed it back to 10 and held on. Myles Davis made four free throws in the final 13 seconds to close it out."

From TN Sports Radio

"From NASA to Sportscenter, everyone loves a good countdown, right? With the bye week upon us and a need for some positive reinforcement, wouldn’t now be the best time to relive the top ten moments of the 2013 Tennessee Vols season after the first ten games of Butch Jones’ tenure?I thought you might agree."
