Josh Malone, the number one wide receiver in the state of Tennessee, made it official on Wednesday — he’s all Vol.

Malone ended months of speculation by committing to Tennessee, live on NBC Sports Network.

This is a HUGE — I repeat HUGE — pickup for the Volunteers. Malone is rated as a five-star WR by Rivals and a four-star WR by 247Sports.

247Sports rates Malone as the fifth best WR in the nation.

Malone chose to commit to Tennessee over offers from Clemson, Georgia, Florida State and many many others.

The 6’3″/190 lb WR from Gallatin, TN (Station Camp) makes an already stout 2014 Vols recruiting class just that much stouter.

This is arguably the biggest commitment that Butch Jones has received so far during his tenure at Tennessee.

That’s because Malone, unlike other huge commits such as Jalen Hurd and Todd Kelly JR, was undecided up until the final days before his commitment.

Vol fans watched a similar situation unfold with Vonn Bell on national signing day back in February, only to see Bell end up signing with Ohio State.

Malone’s commitment to Tennessee proves that Butch Jones can close on big name recruits and beat out recruiting giants like Clemson, Georgia and Florida State.

Josh Malone is the Vols’ 33rd 2014 commit. He plans to enroll at Tennessee this spring.

The extra practice time should solidify Malone’s status as a major contributor on offense in 2014 for the Vols.
