Butch Jones announced on Thursday that three players have been granted a release from the football program. The players are WR Paul Harris, RB Tom Smith and DB Tino Thomas.
Harris was a true freshman this past season. He played in five games and had one reception for 15 yards.
Smith was a redshirt sophomore and played in ten games. He rushed for 95 yards on 24 attempts, while serving as the team’s third-string running back.
Thomas was a redshirt freshman. He appeared in three games, but did not record any stats.
Harris’ departure will probably be the most noticeable one, as he had a lot of potential at the WR position. Especially with his 6’4″ frame. Smith’s departure could open the door for Alden Hill as the third-string running back, but even then his impact will still be minimal.
None of these departures should have a major effect on Tennessee next season. Losing a few players is something that every program goes through and shouldn’t be viewed as a red flag in any way.
