Two days, three commits.

That’s just how the Tennessee Volunteers do things these days.

A day after adding four-star running back Derrell Scott and top rated long snapper Wesley Horky, the Vols added punter Troy Waites.

Waites, who will walk on next season along with Horky, is a 6’3″/180 lb punter from Hattiesburg, MS. According to the Clarion Ledger, Waites will walk on next season with the hopes to be on scholarship his final three seasons.

Butch Jones, as we mentioned yesterday, places a special emphasis on special teams.

Despite this fact, the Vols’ special teams play was lackluster at times last season, except for one area — punting.

Michael Palardy had a fantastic year punting, allowing the Vols to win the field position battle in key moments against Georgia and South Carolina.

Waites will have some big shoes to fill, if he’s able to win the punting job.

Check out his junior highlights below.
