Marquette met with Tennessee Volunteers head basketball coach Cuonzo Martin on Sunday, according to a ESPN report from Andy Katz.

"Marquette officials met Sunday with Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin, and there is significant interest from the Golden Eagles in hiring Martin away from the Vols, multiple sources told ESPN.com.Sources told ESPN.com that discussions are underway between the two parties, but Tennessee still has an opportunity to keep Martin."

Martin could just be positioning himself for a raise (like Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy did with Tennessee), or there could be significant interest from Martin in leaving.

It’s understandable why Martin would consider leaving, after the way fans treated him this past winter. The majority of fans assumed Martin would be fired, but many changed their tune after the Vols turned their season around and reached the Sweet 16.If not for a questionable charge call against UT forward Jarnell Stokes, the Vols might still be playing.

The report mentions that former UCLA coach Ben Howland and current Duke assistant Steve Wojciechowski are also being considered for the job.

We’ll have more as the this story develops.
