Tennessee Football: Wide Receiver Steven Smothers Offered By Vols

The Tennessee Volunteers extended a scholarship offer to Reisterstown, MD (Franklin) wide receiver Steven Smothers on Tuesday.

Smothers is a 2016 four-star WR/ATH that 247Sports rates as the third best player in the state of Maryland and the ninth best wide receiver in the nation.

The 5’9″/152 lb Maryland native, who runs a 4.46 40-yard dash according to 247Sports, has offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and West Virginia, as well as several others.

If Smothers were to commit to Tennessee, he’d likely be used as a slot receiver. The Vols have a lot of solid options to line up out wide in the future, but no one has the slot receiver job on lockdown.

Smothers named Ohio State as his leader on May 1.
