SEC Media Days: Vols News & Notes

The Tennessee Volunteers took their turn at SEC Media Days on Tuesday and we were offered several small nuggets of information.

We’ve quickly detailed a few things for you below, that you might have missed today.

  • Charles Mosley is still at home recovering from his accident. The team hopes to get him back to Knoxville soon to begin his rehab.
  • After initially saying that Pig Howard’s status with the team was unchanged, Butch Jones announced during his podium session that Howard is back on the team.
  • All of Tennessee’s newcomers have been cleared academically, except Chris Weatherd. However, Jones says that Weatherd has a “great chance” to qualify.
  • Curt Maggitt says he’s healthy and that he will play a lot of defensive end this season. Butch Jones noted that not only is Maggitt the leader of the team this year, but he was also the leader last year when he was injured.
  • Butch Jones says that QB will be a position of strength for the Vols this season and he doesn’t have a timetable on naming a starting QB.
  • Jones singled out sophomores Marquez North and Cameron Sutton as players he expects a lot out of this season.
  • Jalen Hurd, according to Butch Jones, has done “really well” in the weight room and improved his eating habits. Jones says the team expects “big things from him down the road”.
  • Jones says he is expecting a big season from senior defensive lineman Jordan Williams.
  • Coleman Thomas has the inside track to start at right tackle, according to Butch Jones.
