Today On Rocky Top: Vols Announce New PA Announcer

"The University of Tennessee announced Thursday that Jeff Jarnigan is the new public address announcer at Neyland Stadium and will begin his new role when the Volunteers kick off their 2014 season against Utah State on Aug. 31.Jarnigan follows Bobby Denton, whose iconic voice was well-known and revered by Volunteer fans during his 48 years of service in the same role. Denton died in April.Jarnigan has served as the public address announcer for men’s basketball at Thompson-Boling Arena for the past nine years as well as for the Orange & White Game at Neyland Stadium for the last eight years. He also was the announcer for The Pride of the Southland Marching Band for a 12-year span.Jarnigan is a native of East Tennessee who attended his first Tennessee football game on Oct. 3, 1970. Bobby Scott led the Vols to a 48-3 victory over Army that day and created a Volunteer fan for life. Jarnigan is a member of the Fulton High School Wall of Fame, along with fellow Vols Jackie Walker, Bill Justus and Ron Widby.Read more at the Daily News Journal"

"Senior linebacker A.J. Johnson has been named to the Preseason All-SEC First Team and sophomore wide receiver Marquez North earned a spot on the Preseason All-SEC Third Team as announced the SEC Media Days on Thursday.Johnson is a preseason consensus All-American and has been named to the preseason watch lists for the Bednarik, Butkus, Lombardi, Lott IMPACT and Nagurski Awards.Johnson returned to Tennessee for his senior season after another stellar campaign as a junior. A 2013 AP and Coaches All-SEC first-team selection, Johnson became the first Vol to record 100 tackles in back to back seasons since Earnest Fields did so in 1990-91 finishing his 2013 campaign with 106. Johnson also notched 8.5 tackles for a loss of 17 yards, tying a career high, while also recovering a fumble and breaking up three passes. Johnson notched five double-digit tackling efforts in 2013, bringing his career total to 18.He currently sits in third place on the UT career assisted tackles list with 164. The Gainesville, Ga., native enters his final season on Rocky Top with 324 career tackles in 36 career games.North comes into his second season on Rocky Top after a freshman All-American campaign in 2013.Read more at UTSports.com"

"The trial date for a lawsuit filed by former Tennessee associate director of sports medicine Jenny Moshak and two ex-Lady Vols strength coaches against the university has been moved to June 23, 2015.U.S. District Judge Pamela Reeves granted Tennessee’s motion to continue a trial originally set for April 21, 2015. Former Lady Vols media director Debby Jennings has a lawsuit against the university with an April 27 trial date. The school’s motion said having two trials so close together would create “an undue burden on the university and its counsel.”Read more at ESPN"
