Vols 2014 Stat Projections: Pig Howard

According to Butch Jones’ comments this past Tuesday at SEC Media Days, the Vols will have their 2013 receptions leader back in the mix this upcoming season.

Jones announced that Pig Howard, who led the Vols with 44 catches last season, is back on the football team after missing all of spring practice. Jones also mentioned that Pig’s had “one of the best off seasons” in the program.

Howard’s return is huge for the Vols. He’s a prototypical slot receiver that has already proved he can produce in Butch Jones’ offense.

The Florida native won’t be the star of the team in 2014, but there’s a good chance he could end up leading the Vols in receptions once again.

If Howard can stay healthy and keep his head where it’s suppose to be, there’s no reason to doubt an increase in his numbers from 2013.

The Vols already had a very impressive group of wide receivers before Howard’s return. His return only adds to the incredible depth that Jones has quickly assembled while at Tennessee.

With Howard on the roster, the Vols’ are looking at starting Marquez North and Von Pearson out wide, with Howard in the slot. You’ll also see plenty of Josh Malone and Jason Croom with Josh Smith and Johnathon Johnson seeing some time as well.
