West Virginia-Tennessee Game Officially Announced
By Zach Ragan
The Tennessee Volunteers will open the 2018 season against the West Virginia Mountaineers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC.
The game, which has been rumored since early April, was officially announced by the Vols on Tuesday. It will be the first time that West Virginia and Tennessee have played each other in football.
The Vols now have three neutral site games scheduled over the next five seasons.
- Tennessee VS UAB — September 5, 2015 — LP Field (Nashville)
- Tennessee VS Virginia Tech — September 10, 2016 — Bristol Motor Speedway
- Tennessee VS West Virginia — September 1, 2018 — Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte)
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 2017 neutral site game added in the near future. Especially considering the Vols don’t have a major non-conference opponent scheduled in 2017.
As far as Tennessee’s game against West Virginia, it will be a special moment for Butch Jones. The Tennessee head coach spent two seasons as an assistant at West Virginia, before taking his first head coaching job at Central Michigan in 2007.
Jones should have the Vols back to prominence by 2018. I know it’s a long way off, but the Vols should be favored in this game when 2018 comes around.
