Vols head coach Butch Jones addressed the media on Thursday, in advance of Tennessee’s first fall practice on Friday evening.

Here are a few notes from Jones’ presser.

The Vols will hold an open practice on August 16. Gates open at 6 pm and the practice will start at 7 pm. Parking be free.

All players academically qualified.

Jones said the players’ conditioning is “night and day” from a year ago. He said he was “quietly concerned” this time a year ago.

Jones said a starting quarterback will be named when one steps up and takes control of the program.

Jones said he thinks the experience at wide receiver will help the quarterbacks “tremendously”.

The biggest concerns, according to Jones, are the offensive and defensive lines.

The Vols had a company come in and assess how the players learn.

Jones said that offensive tackle Dontavius Blair made tremendous strides during the summer.

Defensive lineman Jordan Williams was praised by Jones for having a great offseason.

Jones said he anticipates the team playing faster this season.

Jones said team 118 has evolved into a player led football team.
