Matt Simms Expected To Be Jets’ Third QB

Former Clemson quarterback, and one time Tennessee commit, Tajh Boyd appears to be destined for the New York Jets’ practice squad.

Which means former Vols quarterback Matt Simms should have the number three job “locked up”.

Here’s what ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini had to say about the situation.

"The rookie sixth-round pick was one of only a handful of active players who didn’t get in the game. The second half was the Matt Simms show. It looks like Simms has the No. 3 job locked up."

Being the third quarterback on an NFL roster (especially the Jets) isn’t the most glamorous jobs in the world, but at the same time it might be one of the best.

As the third quarterback, there’s very little chance you’re going to be forced into action.

The third quarterback is basically an extension of the coaching staff.

I obviously don’t have any personal experience, but it’s got to be one of the most laid back jobs in the world.

Of course Simms will be playing behind a couple of guys (Geno Smith and Michael Vick) that are far from Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. Simms’ likelihood of playing is a lot higher than Manning’s backup, Brock Osweiler.

Simms played well in the team’s first pre-season game against the Indianapolis Colts. The former Vol was 13/18 for 96 yards in the Jets’ win.
