Marquez North Set To Be One Of Top Wide Receivers In The SEC

facebooktwitterreddit

Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Marquez North made quite the impression as a true freshman in 2013.

The Vols didn’t have a lot to celebrate offensively, but North was one of the few bright spots.

From his toe-tapping touchdown catch against Georgia, to his one-handed grab against South Carolina, North gave Vol fans a reason to celebrate last season.

The North Carolina native led the Volunteers in receiving yards last year and he should be considered the favorite again this season to lead Tennessee as well.

The difference this season is that North should be a much improved receiver. As impressive as he was last season, he was still learning the position.

According to wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni, North couldn’t run a route at all last year.

"Azzanni: He [North] is a guy that’s really exciting me right now. He couldn’t run a route last year, I’ll be honest with you….it would keep me up at night….He’s a very prideful kid, that’s what I love about him. It tears him up if he’s not good at something……In a year or two, I’m not sure how many better there will be out there if he keeps improving the way he’s been improving. To me he’s that talented"

North’s one of the most physically impressive wide receivers in the SEC. If he figures the position out from a technical standpoint, it really is scary how good he can be.

Tennessee fans learned all about Marquez North last season. In 2014, the rest of the SEC will know North all too well.
