Former Vols: Zach Fulton Wins Chiefs’ Starting RG Job

Most sixth round draft picks are just hoping to make a 53-man roster in the NFL. Almost none of them expect to compete for a starting job.

But that’s exactly what Zach Fulton, the sixth round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014, did during training camp.

And he apparently did it well.

More from Tennessee Volunteers

Fulton is listed as the Chiefs’ starting right guard on the team’s initial depth chart.

The former Vol took a stronghold on the job during training camp. Even though he’s had some growing pains, he was able to hold off veteran Jeffrey Lickenbach to win the job. Fulton should improve as the season progress.

The coaches obviously think he will, otherwise he wouldn’t have won the position battle.

Fulton is one of two former Vols that will be starting as rookies in the NFL in 2014 (Miami Dolphins rookie Ja’Wuan James is the other).
