Butch Jones Checks In On Vols’ Target Shy Tuttle

With just one week until five-star defensive tackle Shy Tuttle’s announcement date, it was imperative that Tennessee make one last good impression.

As if the photoshopped Rolling Stone cover wasn’t enough.

But you never know in recruiting, so Butch Jones (who was in Texas on Thursday night to check out UT quarterback commit Quinten Dormady) made the trip on Friday to Kernersville, NC, along with special teams coach Mark Elder, to take in one of Tuttle’s games in person.

Tuttle will commit next Friday and the Volunteers obviously view the stud defensive-tackle as their top priority. If Tennessee is able to land him, it would give them a John Henderson type run stuffer to feature the next four years.

One local North Carolina reporter, who was covering Tuttle for the first time, bought into the hype instantly.

Tuttle has been impressive and consistent during the first few games of the season.

The Vols are currently the favorites to get a commitment from Tuttle, but you can’t rule out North Carolina just yet. The Tar Heels are making a strong push for Tuttle as well.

Jalen Dalton Note:

Four-star defense end Jalen Dalton, a close friend of Tuttle’s that lives in Clemmons, NC (just down the road from Lexington, NC, where Tuttle is from), is also being recruited by the Vols.

Tennessee checked in on Dalton on Friday.

The talented defensive end had a sack and a couple of tackles for loss in his game on Friday night. He also recovered a fumble and took it to the endzone for the score.

Dalton is also being heavily recruited by Virginia Tech and North Carolina. It doesn’t look like the Vols are at the top of his list. But things could change if Tuttle ends up committing to Tennessee.
