Vols Football: Von Pearson & Josh Smith Injury Updates

Injured Tennessee Volunteers wide receivers Von Pearson and Josh Smith (both out with high ankle sprains) are still considered day-to-day according to Butch Jones.

According to Jones, more will be known about their status this week.

Jones did, however, mention that Pearson is ahead of Smith at this point.

Pearson sustained his injury against Arkansas State, while Smith suffered his injury a week later against Oklahaoma.

It would be huge for the Vols to get at least one of their injured wide receivers back.

Pearson is a playmaker that can turn a small gain into a big one (kind of like Cordarrelle Patterson guy that played at UT a few years ago).

Smith, on the other hand, is a possession receiver that is somewhat of a safety valve for Justin Worley.

Both receivers bring a different element to Tennessee’s passing game. Just getting either one of them back would be big for the Vols.

One added thought: Tennessee should look at using Pearson in the kick return game when he returns. Pearson is a shifty player that has great open field moves. His elusiveness could help to significantly upgrade the Vols’ return game.
