Vols Recruiting: John Kelly Commits To Tennessee

The Tennessee Vols, a day after reportedly telling defensive Marques Ford there was no room for him in the 2015 recruiting class, received a commitment from 2015 three-star running back/athlete John Kelly.

Kelly, 5’10″/203 lbs from Oak Park, MI (Oak Park), chose the Volunteers over offers from Michigan, Michigan State and Minnesota, among several others.

The Michigan native took an official visit to Tennessee this past weekend.

247Sports rates Kelly as the fifth best 2015 player in the state of Michigan and the 37th best 2015 athlete in the nation.

Senior highlights

Kelly is the third running back in the Vols’ 2015 recruiting class. He should be a nice complement to Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara.

Some may scoff at making a three-star player a priority, but the coaching staff obviously sees enough in Kelly that they felt they had to make room for him.

Remember, it’s not all about star ratings. Coaches see more than the highlight film. Their livelihood is based on successfully evaluating talent.

They aren’t always successful, but more times than not, they know what they’re doing.

Kelly is a solid addition to Tennessee’s 2015 recruiting class.
