Former local basketball star Jordan Bowden committed to Tennessee basketball Tuesday evening. He is the Volunteers’ and Rick Barnes’s sixth 2016 commitment.

The Tennessee basketball squad picked up another 2016 recruit on Tuesday night from former local star, and Knoxville native, Jordan Bowden via Periscope.

Bowden, a three-star, according to 247sports and Rivals, attended Carter High School in Strawberry Plains. The 6-foot-5 guard was the PrepXtra Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 2015 averaging 26 points a game.

He chose to forgo his freshman year in college to work on his game at 22 Feet Academy, a prep school in Greenville, South Carolina. Consider that a wise decision. Bowden’s recruiting came late, but within roughly the last month up to this point, he received offers from the likes of Providence, Marquette, and Cincinnati.

This was a great pickup for Rick Barnes, who continues to add the right players to the tempo-based system he wants to run. The future is beginning to look brighter and brighter.

And with the sixth commitment to the program for 2016, he is bound to have a couple of guys who can replace Kevin Punter Jr. and Armani Moore soon. It may not be next year, but within the next two to three years, the Vols should be in prime position to succeed under Barnes.

Bowden’s commitment only helps affirm that.

He is considered a recruit with a ton of upside with range, and he is not afraid to throw one down.
