The time for the Battle at Bristol and former Vols on the college football Hall of Fame ballot lead the Tennessee news on Rocky Top for Thursday, June 2.


The first weekend in June is almost here, and the offseason for Tennessee athletics is pretty much in full swing. Hopefully all of you in Vol Nation are enjoying your summer and still feeling the hype for football season in the Fall.

Everybody involved with the program certainly is getting involved with the hype, and it is showing with lots of football news going on right now.

Of course, recruiting continues to be in full swing, and Butch Jones and other coaches are not ignoring the media.

There’s also a bit of basketball news to get to for today.

But let’s start with the continual hype behind one football game coming up this Fall.

Battle at Bristol network, kickoff time confirmed – Wes Rucker of 247Sports

"An event billed for primetime on a national stage will be broadcast in primetime on a national stage.The Battle at Bristol between Tennessee and Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 10 will kickoff at 8 p.m. and be broadcast by ABC, a source close to the event confirmed to GoVols247 on Wednesday."

Vols basketball’s Lamonte Turner says he benefitted from missing 2015-2016 year – AP

"After being ruled ineligible last season, Turner will finally make his Tennessee debut in the upcoming season. He hopes to give the Volunteers the pure point guard they’ve lacked in recent years.“I’m glad I went through that year,” Turner said. “I feel like I needed that year. It made me a lot hungrier. It made me feel like I’ve got a lot to prove.”"

"A trio of former Tennessee football stars are on the 2017 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, according to a Wednesday press release.Seventy-five former NCAA Division I FBS players are on the current ballot, and three of them — quarterback Peyton Manning, wide receiver Larry Sievers, and linebacker Jackie Walker — played at Tennessee."
