Butch Jones visiting ESPN, Arian Foster news, and Tennessee football recruiting headline the Volunteers updates on Rocky Top for Tuesday, July 19, 2016.


While everybody makes jokes about the political conventions and the Taylor Swift-Kim Kardashian-Kanye West feud, the rest of us are sitting here focusing on football drama.

And there certainly was on Monday, as SEC coaches decided to make ESPN rounds right as other conference media days began.

We’ll address that here.

But there’s also some news about former Vols in the NFL and a recruiting update to address.

Lots of things are taking shape as Tennessee football gets set for the 2016 season. Let’s begin our news with Butch Jones.

Butch Jones spends Monday at ESPN – Wes Rucker at 247Sports

"Tennessee football coach Butch Jones went through the annual “car wash” at ESPN on Monday, appearing on several television and radio shows throughout the day on the broadcasting giant’s many platforms.Jones flew to Bristol, Conn., early Monday morning and began the annual car wash with an appearance on the Mike and Mike radio show, and he’s also been on SportsCenter and other programs throughout the day."

Former Vol Arian Foster signs deal with Miami Dolphins – ESPN.com

"Arian Foster signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins on Monday, saying he is starting “a new chapter of my life.”The deal is worth $1.5 million and includes incentives that could bring its total value to a maximum of $3.5 million, a league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter."

Tennessee adds RB to 2016 class – Ryan Callahan of 247Sports

"Three-star running back Jeremy Lewis of Lone Grove (Okla.) High School has enrolled at Tennessee for the second session of summer classes, sources told GoVols247 on Monday, joining the Vols as a late addition to their 2016 recruiting class and a replacement for injured running back Joe Young.The 6-foot-1, 193-pound Lewis signed with Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, earlier this year after decommitting from Arkansas State in January. He also received scholarship offers from Nebraska, Ohio and Tulsa."
