Huge Volunteers recruiting news, Tennessee basketball’s schedule in Maui, and Bob Shoop headline the updates on Rocky Top for Wednesday, July 20, 2016.


Happy Hump Day everybody. Tennessee football continues to have huge news with the start of the season still six weeks away. It seems like Butch Jones and Co. manage to make a splash some way on a daily basis nowadays.

The news for today includes some basketball updates that are pretty exciting as well.

Pretty much all Tennessee news has been exciting over the past few days, and Vols fans definitely hope it stays that way.

The biggest headlines Wednesday are about recruiting. Let’s take a look at the recruiting news first.

Gaddy twins commit to Tennessee – Ryan Bartow of 247Sports

"Breyon Gaddy, a Top247 defensive tackle, and Brandon Gaddy, a three-star defensive tackle — twin brothers who are teammates at Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach, Va. — both announced Tuesday afternoon that they have committed to Tennessee.They chose the Vols over Clemson and Florida, giving Tennessee its 19th and 20th commitments for the 2017 class."

Vols basketball to open Maui Invitational vs Wisconsin – UTSports

"The official bracket for the 2016 Maui Jim Maui Invitational was released Tuesday, and Tennessee’s first opponent in the championship round is Wisconsin. The Volunteers and Badgers tipoff Monday, Nov. 21, at 2:30 p.m. ET (9:30 a.m. Hawaii Time), and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.The other opening-day matchup on Tennessee’s side of the bracket features Georgetown and 2016 Elite Eight participant Oregon. While the opposite side of the bracket includes games between 2016 national runner-up North Carolina and Chaminade, and Oklahoma State and UConn."

Vols still touting new coordinator – Patrick Brown of Chattanooga Times Free Press

"Bob Shoop’s debut game as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator remains another six weeks away, but the Volunteers continue to forecast it in the same terms they did during spring practice a few months ago.The two defensive players Tennessee took to SEC media days last week touted Shoop’s impact this offseason and spoke glowingly of the coach tasked with turning a solid defense into a championship one."
