John Currie’s first 100 days as Tennessee Vols athletic director and a football series with Oklahoma lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

Spring practice is in full swing, and Tennessee Vols fans are finally starting to feel it as well with the nice spring weather that is shining across the country now.

As we get set to bring you the news on Rocky Top for Tuesday, April 4, two of the big spring sports have big news for the night.

At the same time, there is football news, and we do a bit of coverage on the first 100 days of the school’s new athletic director.

But first, as always, football news is the biggest.

Hoping that this time goes better than the last two times they played, Tennessee football will face the Oklahoma Sooners again in the near future. This time, though, it won’t be in back to back football seasons.

"The UT football program announced Monday the programs will meet in the 2020 and 2024 seasons. The Vols will play in Norman on Sept. 12, 2020 for their fifth meeting against the Sooners. Oklahoma makes the return trip to Neyland Stadium on Sept. 7, 2024."

He may still be a controversial hire. We certainly were against the hire here. But to John Currie’s credit, he has not taken anything for granted ever since taken over as the Tennessee Vols’ athletic director. His first few days have been nonstop work.

"John Currie knew he couldn’t waste any time once he took over as Tennessee’s athletic director. It was too important for him to get off to a good start as the new leader of the Vols.In his first few days in charge Currie is putting the plan of listening he laid out during his introduction last month into action and meeting with as many people as he can to reacquaint himself with those who were at Tennessee when he left for Kansas State in 2009 and learn the new aspects of Tennessee’s athletic department."

The red-hot Tennessee Vols close out a 10-game home stand in a midweek match-up against Eastern Kentucky. Ranked No. 19, they have been on a roll recently and will look to continue that Tuesday.

"The Volunteers are riding a 10-game win streak after a series sweep over NC State last weekend. They have swept their last two weekend series and the win streak is their second longest of the season after starting the year with 13 consecutive victories."
