Tennessee Tech tried to troll Tennessee Volunteers defensive end Derek Barnett on its football Twitter account after the Philadelphia Eagles drafted him.

Remember, the Tennessee Vols destroyed the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 55-0 this past year. Yet that irrelevant in-state program thought it would be important to troll NFL first-round pick Derek Barnett.

The school’s official football twitter page tweeted out a suggestion that he was not as good against the run as he was against the pass. It later deleted the tweet, realizing how idiotic it was to do such a thing.

But they forget that everybody has screenshots now. And an article here on Saturday Down South has a screenshot of the tweet.

The Golden Eagles showed one highlight of Derek Barnett facing two offensive linemen and a tight end forcing him away from the play.

Then the tweet said, “‘Great’ vs the pass. Against the run…? You decide.”

Obviously, this was to hint that he wasn’t as good at stopping the run.

I wasn’t even aware there was any tension between Tennessee Tech and the Vols, but apparently there is.

And apparently, when you lose to a program 55-0, you can still brag by stopping their best defensive lineman on one play in which you employed three guys to stop him.

It’s worth noting that Butch Jones pulled Barnett and the rest of the starters pretty early in that game. After all, the Vols were in control from the start. So he only got one tackle on the day.

And we also would like to note that Barnett knew not to waste his energy in unimportant games. That’s why all of his great performances came against Power Five teams.

Why would the Golden Eagles ever even come close to being on his radar?

Tennessee Tech should focus on moving out of FCS before they command any attention from a guy like Derek Barnett.

Since that’s not going to happen anytime soon, this is really just something to laugh at.
