We’ve reached the halfway point for the month of June. SEC Media Days is now less than a month away, and we are less than three months from the start of the Tennessee Vols football season.

As we get set to bring you today’s news on Rocky Top, though, we’re going to focus on a few other sports relative to the summer.

Let’s start with a very nice gesture that a Tennessee Lady Vols legend is doing to honor her late college coach for the rest of this month.

Former Tennessee Vols women’s basketball star Candace Parker is wearing orange shoes for the month of June to honor Pat Summitt. The Los Angeles Sparks star won her first WNBA ring last year and said it was for Summitt, and she continues to honor her on the court.

"“I’ll be wearing orange kicks all June; it was my coach’s birthday and the month she passed away,” said Parker."

Christian Coleman USTFCCCA National Runner of the Year – Tyler Mayforth, USTFCCCA Online

On Wednesday, Tennessee Vols track star Christian Coleman was named the National Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Coleman won the award less than a week after an amazing performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championship.

"Coleman, a junior from Atlanta, Georgia, put together an outdoor season for the record books. He won national titles in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships and is the third man in a row to accomplish that feat (Andre De Grasse and Jarrion Lawson were the others). During the semifinals, Coleman shattered a six-year-old collegiate record with his wind-legal time of 9.82."
