It’s that time of week again; it’s Friday. Oh, and it’s Florida week, that means something around these parts. The only thing that could make it better is a big ole bag of mail.

It’s Friday, and the workday is over. It’s officially Florida weekend. Despite how the past decade has gone in the rivalry series, this weekend is a pretty big deal for Volnation. Tennessee football fans get pumped when Florida comes to town, and it shouldn’t be any different this time around.

Both teams come into the game with low expectations for the season. However, that doesn’t mean this won’t be a good game.

On to the mailbag, but first, we know you all have questions, thoughts, and comments. You’re welcome to send them to b.williford14@gmail.com any day during the week to be answered in the Friday mailbag.

Dave H writes…who will be the best QB on the field Saturday? Jarrett Guarantano or Feleipe Franks?

You didn’t phrase the question who is the best quarterback; you asked you will be the best on Saturday. Either way, I think the answer is the same. Jarrett Guarantano is the better quarterback hands down. Actually, I don’t even believe this is close.

I know stats aren’t everything, trust me I debate all the time Guarantano wasn’t the reason for the 4-8 season, and his stats weren’t great.

But, let’s play the stats game. Which are better?

Player A: 39-for-54, 494 passing yards,72.2 passing percentage, 2:0 touchdown-interception ratio.

Player B: 41-for-77, 570 passing yards, 53.2 passing percentage, 9:2 touchdown-interception ratio.

We all know Player A is Jarrett Guarantano, but the point was to put both guys side by side to show how much better Guarantano has been this season. Here is how the two compare in other stats.

Passing yards = Franks

Completions = Franks

Attempts = Franks

Passing percentage = Guarantano (2nd in the SEC)

Yards per attempt = Guarantano

Longest pass = Guarantano

Touchdowns = Franks

Interceptions = Guarantano

QBR = Guarantano

Guarantano is only getting better, and he will prove that again Saturday night. For that matter, he will prove it the entire season.

Frank T…Will someone, please tell the Big10 to shut up? Their conference sucks, and so does Urban Meyer.

I’m with you Frank; I don’t understand why there has been so much hype around the Big10 this season. Some networks even had the Big10 as the best conference in college football this year. Are people that desperate to knock off the SEC? The SEC is the best, and it isn’t even close.

We are going to pretend the Big10 and SEC play a challenge in football like the Big12, and the SEC does in basketball.

Geroge H writes…What do you think is the scariest away game next season?

The 2019 Tennessee football schedule was released the other day, and at first glance, it doesn’t look too rough. I’m not sure many can contend with the 2018 schedule. Three top ten teams in a row? That’s absurd.

Here are the road games next season.

September 21 – at Florida (Gainesville)

October 19 – at Alabama (Tuscaloosa)

November 9 – at Kentucky (Lexington)

November 23 – at Missouri (Columbia)

I think the easy answer here is Alabama for obvious reasons. However, that is not the game I’m going with. You have to take Florida here, right? I’m confident in thinking the Vols will be way better than Kentucky next season.

They should also be able to handle Missouri without Drew Lock. So, that leaves the Gators. Win that game next season, and the Vols will take a 4-0 record into the Georiga game which is in Knoxville.

Early prdiction here but I believe at the very least Tennessee wins seven games next season and that starts by beating Florida to move to 4-0.

Next. 5 reasons Vols will beat the Florida Gators. dark

Sorry for the late mailbag. At least it is a little reading material before the big game tomorrow. As always thanks for reading and go ahead and send your questions to b.williford14@gmail.com.
