Second-String: Quinten Dormady, Freshman (Boerne, Texas)
Following Dobbs is likely to be Quinten Dormady. He is a pro-style quarterback who had a very impressive spring as an early freshman enrollee. For Butch Jones and Mike DeBord, any type of transition between the two could be a bit tricky due to the fact that Dormady is more of a pure pocket passer.
But with a more veteran offensive line, elite receivers all over the field, and a pair of running backs that could be unstoppable, Dormady will have enough help to step in and take the reigns should Dobbs get hurt.
As the son of a head coach, Dormady was praised for his intelligence and his understanding of the game. That is a perfect person to play for DeBord, who could channel a bit of David Cutcliffe when it comes to understanding how to adapt to his personnel.
At 6’4″ 213 pounds, Dormady already has the perfect size to play quarterback in any system, and don’t ignore that he was very efficient in the Orange and White game earlier in the year.
It appears to be extremely clear that he will be the backup to Dobbs, and quotes from the coaching staff and analysts at practice have reinforced that notion, so there is no reason to think otherwise at this point. And it looks like he’ll be a star for the future for the Vols as well.
