Scouting Report

After spending his first two years of college at State Fair Community College in Missouri, Kevin Punter Jr. arrived on Rocky Top. The only thing Rocky about his playing career was the teams he played on.

More from Vols Basketball

In his junior season, Tennessee basketball went 16-16 with a 1-1 record in the SEC Tournament. Punter scored 10.3 points per game and was a valuable member of the team.

His senior season is where he began to take on the role as team leader, and it showed on the stat sheets.

Punter went from averaging 10.3 points per game to 22.2 which was good enough for second in the SEC. Not only did his scoring improve but the assist numbers rose from 1.9 to 2.6 per game, and he also developed a shot from the charity stripe in which he grew a lousy 61.7% to an 81.7% by the time his career was over.

How Could Punter Help?

By now everyone in the country knows when Grant Williams is off so are the Vols. That especially hurts in last game situations where the Vols need a big bucket. Punter could score, and by his senior year, he could score from multiple spots on the floor and was reasonably consistent doing so. He had a span of 21 straight games where he scored 13 points or more.

In the game against South Carolina his senior season, Punter had a career-high 36 points. Most memorable was the Kentucky game on February 2, 2016, where Punter had one of his best games as a Vol finishing with 27 points and was 10-of-11 from the foul line.

Kevin Punter Jr. will go overlooked in most instances, and he won’t go down in the history books as one of the best players to wear the orange and white, but I think it is safe to say all Vol fans would welcome him back with open arms.

Where in the World is Kevin Punter Jr?

After his playing career at Tennessee, Punter went overseas to play. He has bounced around different leagues such as the Greek, Polish, and Belgian professional leagues. Punter was recently transferred to play for AEK Athens B.C.
