Scouting Report

Some may say the kid didn’t live up to his five-star hype. Coming out of high school, Hubbs was rated by Rivals.com as the nation’s No. 23 overall prospect and the No. 5 shooting guard in the country. He was even a 2013 Tennessee Class AAA Mr. Basketball finalist.

  • It took awhile for Hubbs to get going with Tennessee basketball. His first two years were relatively quiet. It wasn’t until his junior year where he showed signs of the five-star recruit he was and the unlimited potential he had. Hubbs was the third leading scorer on the 2015-16 team only behind Kevin Punter and Armani Moore.

In his senior campaign, he displayed what Vol fans wanted to see out of the five-star talent all four years. Tennessee participated in the 2016 Maui Invitational, and despite a couple of losing efforts, Robert Hubbs went off. In the game against Chaminade, Hubbs had a career-high 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting. He finished tournament play scoring at a pace of 15.3 points per game.

Hubbs ended his career apart of the 1000th point club and ranks 47th on Tennessee’s all-time scoring list.

    How Could Hubbs Help?

Obviously, Hubbs could score the basketball and would contribute nicely to this team. This team also lacks experience, and Hubbs can help in that area as well. He could bring a different element to the locker room and would be able to encourage and guide this team when to get too up or too down.

Robert Hubbs III is another player that will be disregarded as time marches on but he helped set a standard for a program that was looking for consistency.

Where in the World is Robert Hubbs III?

After his playing career at Tennessee, much like Punter, Hubbs went overseas to play. He currently is the starting point guard for KK Sutjeska Niksic of the ABA League. The season just started, but Hubbs is playing 28.3 minutes a game and is third on the team in scoring at a pace of 11.3 points per game.
