  • Stokes mid-term enrollee which limited his available to only appear in 17 games his freshman season, but that was enough for him to be named to the SEC ALL-Freshman team by the coaches. The first time Vol fans were able to see Stokes in action was against the second-ranked Kentucky Wildcats in which he came off the bench to score nine points in only 17 minutes of action.

Although he was bit undersized for his position, Stokes was a double-double machine, and there weren’t many times someone was going to outrebound him. He finished his career ranked fourth all-time in double-doubles in Tennessee basketball history.

That’s not all the Memphis native was able to accomplish while wearing the orange and white. Stokes ranks eighth in rebounding (836), 41st in scoring (1,129), 14th in blocks (94), and is the record holder for offensive rebounds, with 337.

Two of his best games came in the NCAA Tournament during his junior season. Against UMass, he scored a career-high 26 points with 14 rebounds. Only to follow that performance with a 17 point and 18 rebound game in the third-round of the NCAA Tournament against Mercer.

    How Could Stokes Help?

I know the Vols have Grant Williams and there is also Kyle Alexander who is much improved yet still undervalued. However, adding Stokes would still be a great idea and could really be beneficial for this team. He could score and rebound despite being undersized. Surprising, Stokes has proved he is one of the best rebounders in Tennessee’s history so that could help on the nights the Vols struggle to be aggressive.

Where in the World is Jarnell Stokes?

After his playing career at Tennessee, Stokes was drafted 35th overall in the 2014 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. That pick was soon traded to the Memphis Grizzlies where he bounced around with the Grizzlies and the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League.

In July 2017, Stokes signed with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the Chinese Basketball Association but was waived earlier this month.
