Scouting Report

When you think of Josh Richardson, you think of a kid that made an impact as soon as he stepped foot on campus. He stayed out of trouble his entire career and was a great role model for the young kids that looked up to him.

  • His sophomore year is when Richardson started to improve his game. He increased his scoring average from 2.9 all the way to 7.9 points per game and continued to be the best defensive player on the team.

By his junior season, he became a team leader and increased his scoring role even larger to 10.3 points a game. During the NCAA Tournament is really where Vol fans knew that Richardson had NBA talent. He scored 60 points in three games including a career-high at the time of 26 points against the Mercer Bears.

As you know, his senior year was even more impressive as Richardson was depended on to be the go-to guy on the team. He was an SEC All-SEC First Team selection by AP and coaches and was on the SEC All-Defensive Team.

He ended his career ranked third in the history of the program in games played (136), ninth in games started (110), and 28th in scoring (1,252).

    How Could Richardson Help?

Actually, a better question is how could Richardson not help the team? He is one of the best defenders to play for Tennessee basketball since I’ve been alive (28 years).

Do you honestly think Collin Sexton would have got to the rim anytime he wanted against Richardson? That’s, definitely a bet I’m willing to take.

Where in the World is Josh Richardson?

Richardson was drafted in the second round of the 2015 NBA draft as the 40th selection to the Miami Heat.

This year he has started all 58 games and is averaging 13.2 points per game which is three points more than last year.
