A look into the 2018 Men’s basketball SEC Tournament with predictions
2018 SEC TOURNAMENT FAVORITES
What a year it has been for the Auburn Tigers. No one saw this type of success coming this year, especially how it all got started. They lost in an exhibition game to Division II Barry. I know, just an exhibition game and means nothing but still, they lost.
Back in September, Auburn was one of the teams implicated by the FBI probe into college basketball. Their former assistant coach Chuch Person was one of the assistant coaches who was arrested as a result of the investigation.
On top of all that, the Tigers was projected to finished 9th in the SEC. This year was suppose to be a rough down at the barn, but despite all that, somehow, someway the Tigers won the SEC regular-season title. Until someone knocks them off, they are still the favorite or at least one of them to win the SEC Tournament.
The Vols have a dynamic duo in sophomore Grant Williams and junior Admiral Schofield. Some like to call them Peanut Butter and Jelly for short. Both players are having outstanding years as the Vols finished second in the SEC Standings.
This team is very dangerous when it comes to tournament time. With a strength of schedule of 36, the Vols are battled tested and have demonstrated they can beat the “big boy.” They have five wins over teams in the top 50 of the RPI and six of their seven losses have come from teams in the top 50 of RPI.
The Vols are one of the best passing teams in the SEC, and when the guards play at a high level, this team is difficult to beat.
It’s hard to remember this team is still young, 5th youngest in the country to be exact. Rick Barnes knows his team has room to grow. Even still, they should be a favorite to win the SEC Tournament.
The Vols are Co-SEC Champions for the first time since the 2008 season, guess who was the coach, Bruce Pearl.
