Tennessee Vols morning report: Graduate transfers arrive, Trey Smith recognition

The arrival of two graduate transfers, recognition for Trey Smith, and a former Tennessee Vols player lead our Volunteers news for Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

Welcome to the next to last day of spring! With the summer set to arrive, the Tennessee Vols continue to keep things hot with their news. And the talk today is all about sunny stories on top of that, which is something fans in Knoxville desperately need.

As we get set to bring you our morning updates on Rocky Top, it’s all about football. There is good news surrounding the current state of the program with recognition for one player and the arrival of two others. Then we have a former Vol reaching a career accomplishment. So let’s get going with all the football news.

Brandon Kennedy, Madre London arrive – UTSports

Tennessee football graduate transfers Brandon Kennedy and Madre London were officially added to the team. Kennedy, an offensive lineman, transferred from the Alabama Crimson Tide and will have two years of eligibility left. London, a running back, transferred from the Michigan State Spartans. They join quarterback Keller Chryst, from the Stanford Cardinal, and kicker Ryan Tice, from the Michigan Wolverines, as the other graduate transfers on the roster.

"Tennessee football head coach Jeremy Pruitt officially announced the additions of graduate transfers Brandon Kennedy and Madre London on Tuesday.Both players will be eligible to play this fall."

Trey Smith named to All-American team – Steven Lassan, Athlon

Athlon Sports released its preseason All-American teams for 2018, and Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Trey Smith made the list as a third-teamer. Smith was the only Vol to make it on either side of the ball.

"These are based on how players will perform in 2018. Career statistics and previous awards matter in player evaluation, but choosing players for the 2018 All-America team and all-conference teams is largely based on predicting and projecting the upcoming year."

Former Vol named high school coach – Luis Torres, The Commercial Appeal

Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Cedrick Wilson was named the head coach at Hamilton High School in Memphis. Wilson, who is from Memphis and attended Melrose High School, has a history of winning championships. He won a state championship with Melrose, was a key receiver for the 1998 national championship team, and then he won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. So as a guy who has won championships at every level, Wilson is beyond a perfect choice to be a coach in his hometown.

"His NFL career spanned seven years, and he finished with 178 receptions for 2,365 yards and eight touchdowns.Hamilton was 0-9 last season. The Wildcats have not made the playoffs since 2012."
