Tennessee football nearly hired Greg Schiano until Volunteers fans stopped it. They look great now compared to Ohio State Buckeyes fans with Urban Meyer.

Remember all the heat Tennessee football fans took for nixing the Greg Schiano hire? National media slammed a fan base that didn’t want a guy as head coach who was connected to the Jerry Sandusky scandal with the Penn State Nittany Lions. Well, eight months later, Ohio State Buckeyes fans are taking the opposite approach with Urban Meyer.

I take back everything I ever said about other fan bases. Many deserve ridicule, and they often times go out of their way to prove it. But it doesn’t seem fair to attack them anymore after what is happening in Columbus, Ohio.

Fan bases like the West Virginia Mountaineers have unrealistic expectations for the 2018 season. And they let that sway their judgment so they can be the cool kid on Twitter. But, as annoying as they are they don’t top the Ohio State fanbase.

Even if you are a casual fan, you know what is going on with the Ohio State football team. And, you know that the national media for some reason hasn’t said anything negative about the program.

However, rewind back to last Fall, and the Tennessee football program and their fans were ridiculed for protesting the hire of Greg Schiano. A man that might have covered up child abuse.

Tennessee football fans have ethics, so not wanting a coach that may have had something to do with the Penn State debacle should have been more than okay.

It’s been a decade of losing football and fans had enough. The Schiano hire was the breaking point. Not to mention the NCAA breathing down the program the past couple of seasons.

All that brings up the question, why bring in a guy that could have been a part of horrifying events in the past? It didn’t make sense. So, Tennessee fans protested and got absolutely ripped by the national media.

Up in Ohio, Urban Meyer denied knowing about his former assistant Zach Smith beating his wife until Brett McMurphy broke a story, on his Facebook page by the way, that both Urban and his wife knew about the domestic abuse.

To break it down, Urban was caught in a lie which contained covering up for his assistant coach. And, now you have a fanbase of grown men and women protesting to keep Urban Meyer as the football coach for Ohio State University.

And to top it off the national media is crickets. Urban Meyer has proved time and time again; he will look the other way to continue winning. There is a lot rotten in Columbus and one being the Ohio State fans rallying for a coach that may have covered up abuse.

For the record, I could care less how people choose to spend their time. But, protesting in favor of someone that covered up domestic abuse is a rather dumb way to spend your time. Tennessee football fans took way more heat for protesting the hire of someone linked to an even worse scandal. They are looking smarter by the day.
