No.4 – “The secondary is horrible again”

Let’s face it; the secondary didn’t look great. But what secondary does look good going up against Tua Tagovailoa?  Nick Saban has his passing attack looking unstoppable and the best it has ever been in his tenure at Alabama.

More from All for Tennessee

So far this season, Tagovailoa has produced three 300-yard games, and that is playing unlimited minutes. What he is accomplishing this season is unprecedented. Tua has thrown 25 touchdowns with zero interceptions and is the front-runner to win the Heisman Trophy.

Against the Vols, Alabama threw for 327 yards on 21-of-32 which equates to 10.2 yards per pass. Those numbers are great but let’s not forget Tennessee’s best defensive back Alontae Taylor was ejected from the game for throwing a punch.

Coming into the game, Pro Football Focus ranked Alontae Taylor as the sixth-best defensive back in the nation when it came to fewest yards allowed per coverage snap among Power 5 cornerbacks. Taylor was only giving up 0.41 yards per pass which is impressive due to Taylor just being a freshman.

Moving forward, the Vols have some tough quarterbacks on the schedule but none better than Tagovailoa. The secondary isn’t a strength yet, but it certainly isn’t horrible. It should look much better for the remainder of the season.
