No.3 – Lamonte Turner, Junior

Appeared in 35 games, 10.9 ppg

Lamonte Turner could probably start for most SEC teams. However, he has found a home coming off the bench for the Vols. Last season Turner appeared in every game, and although he didn’t start, he played significant minutes when it mattered.

  • I believe Rick Barnes will handle the rotation the same way this season. Whichever pairing of guards are playing the best will be in at the end of the game. With the way Turner played last season, he should get a bulk of those minutes.

There is also more minutes up for grabs with the departure of James Daniel III and Chris Darrington. Turner could be called on to run some point guard which he could easily handle.

In two years in the program, we’ve seen basically a different player. Turner improved in almost every statical category. He took one more three-point shot per game and connected on almost 40 percent.

I think this season we could see Turner take on more of a scoring role and average around 13 points per game. I know this is bold, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all for Turner to lead the team in three-point percentage over 40 percent.

If he can continue to improve this team could be really hard to guard late in the game. Pick your poison. Turner and Schofield knocking down the three-point shot or Williams tearing it up down low.
