No.1 – Admiral Schofield, Senior

Appeared in 35 games, 13.9 ppg

There is a lot of questions on whether or not Grant Williams can win SEC Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Of course, the SEC is getting better as a basketball conference, and there is a lot of talented players that will be contending for the award. But, don’t sleep on Admiral Schofield.

Like Williams, it’s hard to “breakout” from such a strong season. However, Schofield is primed to do so. Over the summer Schofield was able to participate in NBA workouts, and that is invaluable experience. Plus he is one of the hardest working players on the team, so why shouldn’t we expect big things from the senior?

Last season, Schofield turned it on in the latter stages. Not taking anything away from Grant Williams but Schofield almost overshadowed him in a few games. Again, no knock on Williams, it just shows how much Admiral improved throughout the season.

The last six games of the regular season were more than impressive. It began with the game against the Ole Miss Rebels when Schofield dropped 25 points. He followed that performance with back-to-back games scoring 24 and 23 against Mississippi State and Georiga.

I don’t think it is unreasonable to suggest Schofield could lead the Vols in scoring this season. I also think we see Schofield play well enough to get drafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, that is what kind of breakout year we are expecting from Admiral Schofield.
