5. Darnell Washington signed with Rocky Top

Flipping Jay Hardy on National Signing Day would also be a big deal. But we leave Signing Day out of these things since it’s something that happens every year, so hoping for a successful finish to the recruiting class in February is always on the list. Here we are focusing on unique things that help the Tennessee Vols.

One of those unique situations is five-star tight end Darnell Washington. The prospect out of Las Vegas did not publicly commit anywhere during the Early Signing Period. However, it turns out he did sign with a school, and UT had a splash of a signing period. As a result, there is some excitement that he ended up signing with Tennessee football.

The Georgia Bulldogs were overwhelming favorites to land him throughout the recruiting period, but the Vols appeared to make a strong push towards the end. He also showed his propensity to change things up by signing after saying he wouldn’t and then not publicizing it. Taking all of that into account, there is a chance he did sign with Rocky Top.

Hoping something that already happened just happened the right way is a weird thing, and it’s why we have this at No. 5 on our list. However, Christmas wish lists are often times about hoping that somebody already bought you a gift, so it can be similar. As a result, this still deserves to make the list. If Washington did sign, Jeremy Pruitt scored big.
