Tennessee football falls during Week 9 bye in SEC Power Rankings
Defeated LSU Tigers 48-11
Up until last week, a legitimate argument could have been made that the Auburn Tigers were only 3-2 because of the refs and that if not for officiating, they would be 0-5. However, they are one of only six SEC teams above .500 right now, and Gus Malzahn’s team changed the narrative completely with their 48-11 blowout win over the LSU Tigers.
Sure, this isn’t the same LSU team, but nobody else blew them out like that, and they were coming off a solid win over the South Carolina Gamecocks. As a result, Auburn deserves a ton of credit for how it played and has earned this No. 5 spot in our SEC Power Rankings, one spot up from where it was last week.
What really stood out for the Tigers was not just cashing in on LSU mistakes, and they did do that, but the fact that the offense finally came alive with Bo Nix and Chad Morris. Auburn had over 500 yards of total offense, and Nix led the team in rushing and passing with 381 total yards and four total touchdowns. Was this a fluke or a sign of a turnaround?
With a much-needed bye this weekend, the offense has time to work on things and prove to us that it’s part of a turnaround. After the bye, they have two winnable games against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Tennessee football. That should guarantee them a winning record, and then they close things out with the Texas A&M Aggies and Alabama Crimson Tide.
