Last week: Defeated Austin Peay Governors 54-17

It was a tough call between the Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs in our SEC Power Rankings. Both have beaten Power Five schools. On one hand, MSU’s second win is at least against a Group of Five program while Ole Miss’ is now against an FCS program.

However, on the other hand, Ole Miss looked better against its Power Five program than MSU did, and we can’t say which of their foes were tougher just yet. They also didn’t struggle with a Group of Five program like MSU.

Taking those things into account, Ole Miss is above MSU for now. Blowing out the Austin Peay Governors still didn’t do anything, knocking them down to fifth here, but we can still safely say that the Rebs and former Vols head coach Lane Kiffin are a likely loss for Tennessee football. The offense is just too dominant.

There won’t be much of an opportunity for Ole Miss to move up in the rankings this week, though, as they host the Tulane Green Wave. In fact, it won’t happen for two weeks, as they have their bye after that. However, then they get to visit the Alabama Crimson Tide, a team they know how to give hell to. That will be their test.
