Last week: Lost to Kentucky Wildcats 35-28

Things could get really interesting when the Missouri Tigers take on Tennessee football on Oct. 2 now, as that could be a game to determine the final SEC team that goes bowling. Mizzou was looking to prove it took that next step under Eliah Drinkwitz, but despite giving the Kentucky Wildcats a game, they weren’t able to close the deal.

At the same time, their only win is an ugly 34-24 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas. Now, among all one-loss teams in the league, they certainly have the best resume, which is why they are No. 11 in our SEC Power Rankings. They’ve got a lot to prove, though.

To be fair, like the Vols with Pitt, Mizzou was in this game late. Also like the Vols, though, they allowed UK to have control for much of the game. The only reason Mizzou is ahead of UT right now is the fact that CMU is better than Bowling Green and their loss to Kentucky was on the road.

There won’t be much of a chance to move up this week, as they face the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks, but then they get some real tests again, as they visit the Boston College Eagles Sept. 25 and host the Vols Oct. 2. Those two games will define where they stand this season. If they win both, then they’ll get to 5-1 with the North Texas Mean Green next.
