Tennessee football climbs Week 5 SEC Power Rankings after dominant win over Missouri
Last week: Lost to Mississippi State Bulldogs 26-22
Finally, we’re at the teams with wins over Power Five foes. However, Texas A&M’s one Power Five win was a 10-7 squeaker over the Colorado Buffaloes, a 1-4 team that has yet to beat an FBS team. In fact, Colorado has lost to every other FBS team by at least 22 points.
Jimbo Fisher’s team was supposed to finally get over the hump and compete with the Alabama Crimson Tide this year. That’s not happening anymore. On the heels of a 26-22 loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, they’ve got tons of issues they need to work on, and that loss to Arkansas certainly doesn’t look as good anymore.
Although a national championship or an SEC Championship is out of the playoff picture, though, they still could play for pride. This team does have youth and could play for a lot more in 2022, but it can’t lay down for the rest of this season just because of what happened.
The problem is that things aren’t getting easier. These guys now have to face Alabama on Saturday, which is all but certain to make this a three-game losing streak. Every other game this season is winnable for them to finish 9-3, but Auburn and the Ole Miss Rebels are still on the slate as well, so they have a rough road ahead.
