Welcome to by far the most exciting game of the week. It’s a matchup of two top five teams playing in different divisions of the Big Ten. This was what Tennessee football and Alabama was supposed to look like when the SEC split divisions in 1992, but the two could never line up being elite at the same time.

Anyway, the No. 4 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions were supposed to be two years away from being elite. James Franklin has what should be his best recruiting class ever coming in next year, and the year after would be when they emerge. Instead, a balanced attack and a dominant defense has these guys thriving now with quality wins over Auburn and the Wisconsin Badgers.

On the other side, the No. 3 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes have an impressive win over the Iowa State Cyclones and just dominated the Maryland Terrapins. They get this game at Kinnick Stadium, and Kirk Ferentz has proven he’s still got what it takes to run this program in his identity. Both teams looked equally dominant against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Prediction

Penn State’s defense has looked better against Power Five teams. Iowa has had to rely more on turnovers, but Franklin’s team takes pretty good care of the ball. As a result, I’ve got Penn State in a close, defensive slugfest with a late field goal. Take the under.

Penn State: 20 Iowa: 17 (Penn State +1.5; Under 41)
