Tennessee football stock report after 45-20 win vs. South Carolina
Stocks to sell
Linebackers
Right now, the play of Tennessee football’s linebackers are being overrated. Jeremy Banks had an interception against Mizzou and then one and a half sacks against South Carolina. Aaron Beasley recovered a fumble Saturday after a botched snap. Solon Page III assisted in a tackle for a loss.
However, in spite of all of that, there were seven defensive players who graded higher than any linebacker. Every other position had one player grade higher. On top of that, Juwan Mitchell is now out for the season, and the offenses they face are about to get tougher. As a result, this unit is about to struggle a lot more, so watch out.
Running backs
When healthy, the Vols have an elite collection of running backs. However, Tiyon Evans got banged up Saturday against South Carolina. How healthy he is remains in question, even though Josh Heupel seemed to suggest Monday he should be back at full strength Saturday. Jabari Small being banged up throughout the year is an issue on its own.
Anyway, for as great as they’ve been, Tennessee football had two games in which the running backs averaged under three years a carry. Evans was out for one, and Small was hurt for the other while Evans came back from not playing. UT needs its running backs at full strength, and Saturday’s injury could be a concerning sign going forward.
